Getting error with flashplug in.

I just upgraded to lucid and having a few issues. One is the flash player is not working. I get an error The message is below.
I've tried to the apt-get approach as well using the -f install and the -purge options etc but still seem to get an error.
Got any ideas on the best approach. I seem to have lost sound as well, but need to do some more research on that issue.
Preconfiguring packages
dpkg: error processing flashplugin-non-free (--remove) package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should reinstall before attempting removal.
Errors were encountered while processing:
flashplugin-nonfree
E: sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (10 A package failed to install. trying to recover
