Was that with or without the USB devices plugged in? If without, then
please plug them in and run the command again.

Karl, on the next install you might consider formatting the drive, and
then creating a maximum of four primary partitions and no logical
partitions. That is the bullet-proof way to format a disk. As it is,
your partition table is probably a mess of entropy. This has nothing
to do with the issue at hand, but something for you to consider on
your next install.

Separate /home that's smart!

That depends on what you are doing. Some things it's hard to tell if
sudo is needed or not.
