I do not know if this would help but when I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 my
Eeepc 1001HA and Toshiba T110 over the network (actually over a 3G network:
it took me a while:) ) everything went ok - The main issue is that in 10.04
certain apps/libraries become obsolete and will not be updated in 10.0.4 by
canonical. Plus, it took me quite some time as well. I would attribute that
to the fact that I am functioning at the moment on a 3G network. I decided
to do a clean install, when I got my hands on an install CDs 10.0.4. It was
a lot faster and one of my priorities was to be up to date and not have any
apps/libraries not being updated. Finally, I think, you have to pay
particular attention to any third party software if you run an upgrade.

Hope that helps.
