updating doesn't work anymore

HI,
Since a few days updating my Karmic version meets with the following error:
E: libc-bin: too-long line or missing newline in 
`/var/lib/dpkg/info/libc-bin.triggers'

Has anybody an idea how to circumvent this. I don't want to upgrade to 
Lucid as it is still too unstable (although some people (Karl) say 
otherwise) to run on my main system and some problems e.g. 
audio-problems when running audio-heavy programs in a guest OS in 
virtualbox as well as vmware are still unsolved (for as far as I know).
Somebody help me out?
