What went wrong is the Ubuntu Culture.  Mark Shuttleworth insists that
they produce a "new" version every 6 months.
As a result, they don't triage fully, and there a a series of bugs
unfixed that go back to Warty.

such is the issue, that I have reverted to Debian stable.
Ubuntu is becoming a "uber geeks only" distribution
