     It sounds like the format part of the loader failed.  Tell us what 
your loading from. Is it a cd-rom or a USB memory stick? What version of 
10.04, server or regular? If using a cd-rom which version.

     You can fix the format problem by removing the partition and then 
make it again using Gpart.
