Keyboard problem (certain keys do not function)

You are completely right. newbie error. But, that means that the symbols
that should have been activated with NumLock didn't work. Cause several
of the keys that didnt give any output should have been numbers. Is this
usual for laptop-keyboards together with ubuntu?
