ubuntu-server and remote X displays

Hey folks,
As I just posted in another thread, I am considering moving my home
fileserver over to ubuntu-server.
I just ordered an 8G, 4 core machine that is way more powerful than my
current desktop, and so of course I'm thinking of how I might use it
to offload some of my desktop tasks. For example, running apps on
the server and displaying on my desktop. Naturally, I know this can
be done. It has been in Unix for decades now. I'm just wondering if
ubuntu-server will let me do this without having to install all the X
cruft. Not that I'll be lacking space for it mind you.
Here are the apps I think I'll want to run on the new server and
display back on my desktop. Anyone ever tried these?
- Firefox
- Google Chrome
- Pitivi
I think that is it off the top of my head.
I guess even if it did have to add all the X cruft it would not be a
big issue, no?
thanks,
-Alan
