With Windows installed on the first drive (assume this to be sda?),
install Ubuntu (10.04 - I wouldn't recommend 10.10 for another few
months) to the second drive (sdb). Allow the installer to use the entire
2nd drive if possible - you can always repartion the second drive later
with gparted if necessary. When completed the grub boot loader
should/will recognize both drives and OS's and allow you to select
either OS.

I think you are confusing VirtualBox with VMWare - there are no
particular drivers for Ubuntu in VMWare. Both work just fine if
installed properly and have the guest additions installed correctly.
