I think that it will be best to post my responses as I develop them, rather
than try to do it all in one post.  To finish what I was typing up earlier
(the point at which I noticed all of the other postings piling up):

The B.I.O.S. -- which is on a Gateway chassis -- does not list any audio
options; it does list a video option (but no choice is given).

OK, now I am going to go back to Basil Chupin's last posting and get the
information requested therein.....
