Hmm, no thanks, I've seen Mr. Larsen's postings - too many
similarities to this thread and others I shan't name.

However, this was a reference to another Karl on this list who seems
to be perfectly normal but made the mistake of addressing Mr. Lemire
off-list to take this thread off-list.  The above was Mr. Lemire's
obviously well-considered, temperate response.

What is it about the Internet, discussion groups in particular, that
makes for so many childish displays of temper that the poster would
never even dream about having nightmares in which they behaved so
badly?  Have we not outgrown the banality that used to predominate
many newsgroups?  Never mind - it's the facelessness and the smug
comfort of being behind a screen that can't strike back, at least in
theory.

I shall not descend into that level of discord, and I thank you in
particular, Mr. Chan, of reminding me both how silly we can get and
how simple it is to ameliorate said silliness.
