Hard disks are like cars: mass products, changing technologies, need to be 
sold as cheap as possible...

Unless one has any information about a truly screwed series, I think it's a 
matter of luck. If a company really produced only crappy HDs, they would be 
out of business in no time.

I did notice that most of the older disks that didn't start again after some 
months on the shelf were Hitachi though... (mainly 2.5")
