Perhaps this was mandatory in years gone by but now things are 
differenet. For example my Wave k/board & mouse - don't need this switch 
ON/OFF.

The k/board uses 2x AA batteries and so does the mouse.

I use rechargeable batteries, and the k/board batteries are replaced 
every ~7 months, while the mouse batteries get replaced ~4 months.
