There is room for overlapping, since both are trying to ingratiate their 
way into your intimate information. More specifically, a phisher wants 
your credit card numbers and passwords and account numbers to get at 
your financials, without necessarily harming your computer. As when my 
new friend from Nigeria offered to transfer a billion dollars into my 
bank account for safekeeping, requesting that I send him the relevant 
information to accomplish that task. I could keep the accrued interest 
and a surprisingly large chunk of the principal.


If you yield to the blandishments of a Trojan horse, its transmitted 
malware starts off doing mischief inside your computer, which may 
include transmitting back information about your mailing lists, 
passwords of all kinds, etc., some of which may then be exploited in the 
phishing mode.
