 Rob,

If your webcam conforms to the USB-VC (Video Class) specification it
will work by default and be seen by the V4L2 (Video 4 Linux version 2)
stack. Applications that use webcams on Linux will see it directly.

Most recent Logitech webcams are USB-VC. Also, most laptop onboard
cameras work directly (like the tiny camera that comes with my EeePC)...
