No, I was wrong, sorry. I was confused by the fact that you said that
it would _clear_ the mbr, whereas in fact I think it restores it back
to the windows default so that Ubuntu becomes not available.
I am still not sure it is what the OP wants to do, however, which is
to replace Ubuntu Netbook with Ubuntu Desktop. I do not see the need
to touch the MBR, just install the desktop version over the netbook.

Hi Collin,
Im pretty sure the OP wants to remove his netbook installation and replace it with a Desktop Installation. The fixmbr tool should clear the MBR of Grub, and defaults back to Windows, without erasing his Linux partition. However, he would have to reformat his partition during the Desktop Installation.
