Problem with wireless

That's on a Maverick (10.10) system, isn't it?

That seems to be right because your output of iwconfig shows "Tx-Power=0 
dBm", i.e. the wireless is switched on. Otherwise the output would show 
"Tx-Power=off".

I tried this on my machine with AR5001 chipset from a Ubuntu 10.04 live 
CD:

Right-click on the network manager icon and select "Enable Wireless". 
Then left-click on the network manager icon and select your wireless 
network. Now you should be prompted for the wireless passphrase (if that 
isn't already known to NM).

If that doesn't work, can you try with another kernel? Or if you don't 
insist on using network manager, you could install wicd instead (and 
uninstall nm). Some people who have trouble with nm have better luck 
with wicd.
