In this case you can either stick with the i386 OS using PAE, in case
your RAM memory is much more than 4 Gb or, on a AMD64, run an i386
instance under VirtualBox or VMWare and install the printer driver in
it (which might be a nuisance but it is the way I use the scanner part
of an stubborn Epson combo nearby, that demands Windows OS).
Perhaps you could check what in the printer works in a AMD64
environment with a standard CUPS driver (if is a combo, probably not
much).
Since Dell has to provide drivers for Windows 64 OS, I guess it is
just a matter of time (perhaps a long time) before a Linux 64 release.
