32 bit Windows XP works on every 64 bit computer I've ever put it on.
It's old, it's relative garbage, but it sort of works with nearly
everything. You've got some other problem.

Have you tried a live CD other than Ubuntu? There are dozens, and many
have better hardware detection than Ubuntu. My wife is looking over my
shoulder and yelling "Knoppix!!" Worth a try here since it gives good
on-screen boot messages that might tell you something. Or SystemRescueCD
(Gentoo based), or .... Different distros from different code bases may
have different hardware detection.

Testing with a liveCD has limitations. You might try an install with
something and see what happens; it is easy to erase everything and start
fresh if it fails. Also, why not purchase a cheap PCI network adapter
(not more than $10 around here) and stick it in to get the OS loaded and
updated and *then* trouble-shoot the on-board NIC?
Please trim out old stuff in your replies. We've all read the previous
posts and don't need to scroll through pages of it again. Also, the
list is archived and someone with a similar problem a year from now
would find it easier to search for the final answer if all of the cruft
is removed. Thanks.
