You snipped out my comment, at the tail of the above statement, "Or, it
doesn't understand what to do with the file sent to it.", which MAY
start to explain. Jeeez, don't give me a "none" score for posterity. Not
fair, as you did have to snip that out, and I'm just trying to help. In
the light of that negative response, I could have just as well replied
"RTFM".

In a terminal window try typing file <and the name of the file you're
trying to print> and see what the computer thinks it is. It might be
telling. Or. maybe your old 10.4 config file doesn't jive with something
new in 10.10? That could happen as well, if there was some major update
to cups between versions and you didn't chose to update the config file,
during the process, while keeping the old one?

BTW, you did google on this? My first hit led me to this:
http://malaysian-ubuntu.blogspot.com/ from
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1703571

Thankfully I don't have to go to these lengths with my HP printer and I
have no clue if this advice on that page is correct.

I'm still running 10.4 and my version of cups is 1.4.3-1, according to
synaptic. Do you have a version number that is higher? Significantly
higher to indicate a major update?

Trouble shooting with a shotgun here, since you upgraded you should
still have all of the same packages installed, just higher versions. So,
it's not like you're missing Adobe or something equally simple...unless
you didn't add/edit your old ppa's back, updated to your new 10.10
version level that something related to printing needs for your setup?
Like a Brother printer driver ppa? Not being there, I can only guess,
completely in the dark about Brother printers, from my own experiences,
just printers in general.

Even Samba can break printing, in strange unforeseen ways, so anything
is possible. Others will have their opinions, too. But, there is no
reason (mostly) that what used to work can't work again. So, give me
credit for giving it a shot, as well as my time. and please don't
under-quote me and state I was ~completely~ wrong.

I've had sound problems that I ranted about on the lists for several
days, until I found my speakers power supply wasn't plugged in, so I
mentioned the easy stuff first, ~just~ to be sure. :) Ric
