What seemed to be the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. Also
NVidia card-driver and a certain, I think flash image which persisted
even after shutting down the browser. It only happened with a certain
flash movie from one site and could only be stopped by rebooting the
computer. Then after some updates and rebooting it that not appear again,
some more updates and it happened again, then some updates and a reboot
it stopped and has not reappeared since. The flash movie was an
advertisement on the site of my favourite newspaper, which, as far as I
can see, is still there. I don't know after which updates it appeared,
then stayed away, then reappeared, then stayed away again, sorry about
that. But with my present fully updated 10.10 it does not happen.
