Unity is designed for netbooks and related touch-based devices?

I am not using neither a netbook nor a touch-based device.

I have used kde/gnome before (since  7.10).

What is the recommended 11.04 install for a ubuntu laptop/desktop-pc user?

I am still awaiting a simple complete explanation about what the idea 
behind unity is (without having to read pages and pages of information on 
the internet *smile*)

I have skimmed somewhere, that unity is an attempt to create a Mac 
looking/feeling ubuntu linux?
