Sorry, can't help you to recover your system, but:
Natty is still beta.
I would backup /home as quickly as possible and do a clean install of
Maverick or the release you had previously just to be safe with a
stable system.
Test Natty with the Live CD before trying to upgrade. Consider
installing Natty in another partition.
