mail connections

I don't want to start an OT thread here, but if anyone has successfully set
up Thunderbird or Evo to an exchange server that uses both a server and
proxy
could you send me an email offline for some insight as to how to get this to
work? I've been googling a while and have tried every combination I can
think of
but cannot get either one to connect. I did find that Tbird is probably out
since I don't think my IT dept supports IMAP, so evo may be the only choice,
but I
just don't want to use Outloon for getting mail since I really want to save
my mail locally (and not in a proprietary format).
