need help with video driver on natty

I could do that, if needed.  The system is back now.

What i did was start the system in failsafe graphics from grub/recover.
Then able to the the ubuntu classic graphics up.  Started the
Additional Drivers window.  None of the video drivers were active.
Activated and rebooted.

I now see that the nvidia current driver is activated (but not in use .... ?)
