system hangs up while playing video.

hi,
While running any video files with movie player or vlc , the system will
hang up for 10 sec after that it will come to normal operation and after
some time again it's the same.i am facing this problem in 10.04 also and the
same in 10.10 also, how can i overcome from this.I am not able to find the
root cause, is there any package's to add or remove to solve this problem.
