He did delete all partitions later on when he asked this question.
What most likely happen was there was a sda1, sda2 and sda3
Then sda2 and sda3 were deleted (not by him)
When installing Ubuntu, swap needs to be created and an extended 
partition sda4 and a logical swap sda5 was created.

Here I worry that the partitions were by then, not in good condition.
