    Of you have only one graphic card, it's not possible to have two X servers
  driving the card *and* displaying together. You can have one that displays
  images at a time, not both. I think the "performance improvements" come
  from the fact that the secondary X server does not have all the extra-gear
  (monitors, moving background, fancy clock, cdrom-checker, whatever). In
  that case startx -- :1 is probably your friend.

   You can try to log out, go to a console, startx -- :1 and see whether you
  notice any difference in speed. If not then just do not care about the
  secondary X server and start on the main one.
