Does ubuntu has intel 1G/bits wire Ethernet driver?

In 2008 there were a lot of issues with the driver you are using:
e1000e. A quick search on Google brought a lot of hits, some of them
as late as 2010. Could it be that you are facing the consequences of
an awfully bad driver?
