A machine with 2GB RAM should work. However I would test it anyway using 
the Ubuntu LiveCD which you can download from 
<http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu>. While the system is running 
from CD it is rather slow but you could at least check if the rest of 
your hardware is supported.
