System log viewer

Hello,

Where did the system log viewer go in 10.04, I 
can't find it anywhere?

Also, I have forgotten the name of the program 
that takes care of scheduling tasks in Linux, and 
I have a daily backup of my home folder going on 
to another partition which is getting full, and 
need to stop it.

Could someone please remind me what the name of 
the scheduling daemon in Linux is?

I was going to look in the system logs, as it's 
name is in there constantly, but I can't find the 
damn viewer anywhere???
