Pulse and Alsa are not at the professional edge of audio, with Linux.
Jack is usually tied to a special kernel that allows lower latency for
sound applications ...meaning the kernel will devote more of it's power
to audio as opposed to serving html pages. Pulse/Alsa are good enough
for the average user, but not the dedicated Audio professional. What you
want to do is more bleeding edge... ergo more attention is needed
towards your audio goal than the usual kernel will deliver.

You can add alsa-jack extensions, I believe, that connect alsa to jack.
I haven't messed with it. You might google around for your own personal
edification, join some jack and/or rakarrack mailing lists and start
asking questions. Read the Alsa docs, too... there is a bunch of
configuration options and quick fixes. Again, your project is past the
level of usual audience participation. But, I wish you luck. Ric
