If you can't follow the beginners' guide to install Arch, it may not be
for you. Besides, since it's a rolling release and so on, gnome 2 is
long gone and gnome 3 replaces it. OTOH, you can install any de or wm
you want. Mint has been suggested, Mandriva, openSUSE are nice,
PCLinuxOS works well, etc.
