Similar problem here. When I got all huffy about it with HP, I was
passed up to someone claiming to be in charge of printer issues for HP
to the world. She suggested that in the future I not buy a entry-level
printer, and that my year old printer must be broken. What I then
suggested is not printable. I am an equal opportunity ranter. Man,
woman, I don't care.
If someone has an old Spinwriter parked in the garage, let me know. I
could print a carton of fan-fold with one $5 ribbon. So would my old
Teletype 43. http://www.atariarchives.org/bcc3/showpage.php?page=287
But, to get any semblance of decent printing you do need the HP utils
and drivers straight from HP. I haven't checked lately, but there used
to be a huge difference in the version # between the repo and HP.
Printing improved, using the HP version from HP's website, but still
looks like crap. Just better looking crap. What's a shame is that it
used to do a pretty decent job of printing. I'm in the process of
updating it again, I'll get back to you as to the results. Ric
