No sound on Ubuntu 11.04 after update and reboot

Hello,

I'm having an issue with Ubuntu.  Everything was working fine, and Ubuntu
told me to install some updates, so I did.  I didn't know what it asked me
to install.  It told me to reboot the computer, so I did.  After I logged
in, my sound wasn't working.  The login sound wouldn't play, and although
Banshee would show songs playing, no sound would be heard.  I'm kind of a
noob at hardware issues (if this even is one).  Any help is greatly
appreciated.

Also, if it helps, the boot sound plays at the login screen.  The sound only
goes off after I log in.
