update or not?

Thanks for the reply but I don't think you read all of my original mail.
I have repeatedly run apt-get upgrade and rebooted but the message is
still there, and in fact has become more baroque. Since the message is
repeated twice, with slight variations, I can only believe there is a
bug. Can anybody tell me where the message comes from or how to find the
problem?
