Jordon did raise a point. Linux doesn't aways find some of the hardware
at first boot. It can be a real pain-in-the-tail to get hardware that
needs proprietary software drivers to run at all, as they were intended
to. And, by making the comment that everything works out of the box,
some folks new to Linux are going to be extremely misled and angry when
it doesn't. Alsa just loves to have stuff muted on first boot. So, we
get dozens of posts a month with someone trying to figure out how to
listen to something. Nvidia drivers might get loaded with Jockey and
might not. Wireless is so hodgepodge that I've never used a wireless
adapter. Printers working half-assed. Things are improving.

And, with all the various types and manufacturers of hardware out there,
it's a blooming wonder when something does work, out of the box. Plus,
the comment that Windows has poor hardware support... look at all the
posts where someone says "It works when I boot into Windows, but not
when I boot into Linux."

So, we all herd together here for mutual support and hand-holding, when
a piece of someone's system fails to work. Jordon works with both
environments, and knows of what he speaks. I LOATHE MS and Gill Bates,
for their predatory business tactics.

But, Windows as a whole runs just about every piece of kit there is,
with far less problems than Linux has. I have no beef with Windows, just
MS, as I said before. The OP's comment was, to me, clearly untrue. So,
if both parties would take a time out, be quiet, and stand in separate
corners, I'll let you both have supper. Goh Lip will cater. I think he
promised 5-Spice Jellied Duck Feet for an appetizer. He'll post the rest
of the meal menu, which I look forward to. I do like snails in black
bean sauce (hint hint).

p/s While I'm off AGAIN to the damn hospital tomorrow for another bout
with blood clots in my legs, I expect everyone to be on their best
behavior until I get back. If I hear so much as a peep.... <grins> Ric
