You might also try to give Bodhi Linux a go. It's very much less
resource hungry than even Lubuntu and I find it much more stable and
updates don't break things, but that's saying Lubuntu's updates do break
things, sometimes seriously, maybe the developers are more capable.
However, it is much more modifiable (even more than kde), with many
options for lots of things (which I like) but that makes it also more
difficult to learn and get used to.
It's the fastest 'full-ranged' distro I've used and I have it on a 2GB
thumb and also my default 'iso-booting' distro (also on thumb). It uses
the E17 enlightenment gui. You can make it look like gnome, kde, mac or
whatever you like, maybe your own arrangements that nobody thought about.
So, something to think about.
