The reason for the "ifupdown" entries is that in order to have
settings in "/e/n/i" take effect when using NM, you have to allow the
use of ifupdown in "/etc/NetworkManager/nm-settings". NM then presents
you with the NICs set up in /e/n/i and prepends them with "ifupdown".
