AMD invented the 64 bit extensions to the old 32 bit CPUs and Intel
copied it afterwards and it is the same. The honour of the real work
goes to AMD hence the amd64 extension. They are interchangeable for
the common user.
Intel has a separate 64 bit CPU called Itanium, which is also commonly
called Itanic since, just like Titanic, it sank with all at hands.
Itanium architecture is known as ia64 to make matters more confusing.
Hence amd64 makes more sense.
To cut the story short: use it, that's the one you are looking for.
