You could install the repo version:

$ apt-cache policy freecad
freecad:
  Installed: 0.12.5284-dfsg-5ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0.12.5284-dfsg-5ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 0.12.5284-dfsg-5ubuntu1 0
        500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/universe i386 Packages
