Creating a new ARM/AVR platform

Hi James,
Unfortunately I can't say much that I haven't already said publicly.
we're developing a device to integrate with our monitoring system that must run linux because of our custom software and throughput requirements (aprox. 40KBps of constant, not including headers, IP, etc).
The device needs to fit into a 1U rack-mount box with room to spare for our custom hardware, which I can't give details of, other than it connects via RS232 and some other flexible, bi-directional data bus which we have yet to choose.
I'd be glad to here your recommendations on the subject
