Good DVD multi-recorders can be bought for less than $30 US. Time to
upgrade.

Assuming you have enough free space in the root filesystem.

mkdir /tmp/backup-home
cd
tar -cj . | split -b 4.2G - /tmp/backup-home/backup.tar.bz.

When finished, you should have a bunch of backup files in the
/tmp/backup-home folder. Write each one to a DVD. You can adjust the
4.2G to whatever is appropriate for the media you want to use (CD's for
masochits, or double layer DVD, or even BD.) When done, delete the
backup files from /tmp

rm /tmp/backup-home -rf
