There are some files that you can edit, and once edited the system will not
change it unless you add a new device (network card in this case).

Unfortunately, with persistent net rules, the OS will just add new devices
to the end of the file and you can end up with a mess since it never deletes
devices from the file.


And to clarify on your earlier question:

I think it only matters if you bring two drives together on the same machine
at some point in the future, making for maintenance headaches.
