Audio question

I am able to play music through my hifi using the USB port, but I'm not
sure as to whether the music file is being played in its native format.

My Audiolab MDAC has a bit-perfect test routine, but it doesn't seem to
think that the test files are being rendered perfectly.

Is there a setting somewhere that will guarantee that files are played
without downsampling/upsampling or any other changes?

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04
