You say "sometimes".... keep rebooting until you get a working boot,
and then post the contents of dmesg to a pastebin. Post the URL on
this list.

Alternatively, boot in nosplash noquiet mode and watch where the boot
process fails.

Additionally, run memtest from the boot menu. Any errors at all means
failing ram.
