This is what's often referred to as "FakeRAID". The motherboard doesn't
really do the RAID at all, it's done in software (usually in Windows)
but the driver. It's pretty awful as it goes.

I'd consider using the alternate CD and using Linux MD RAID which is
also software RAID but much better than the awful FakeRAID on your
motherboard.
