Hello Chris and everybody

A few things I would like to add.

The search string "BCC world news in .pls format" also delivered a few
useful results, amongst which:
http://bbc.in/GW5UvU
http://bbc.in/dhFjVR

One of the links I found there is the World Service live channel in MP3
format:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/meta/live/mp3/eneuk.pls

Right-click at this link, than choose the option "save file as....." You
will save a small .pls file of the type "MP3 shoutcast". Copy that file to
some place logical for you at your HD/ Home directory. Than, right-click at
the file and open it with a media player like Amarok or VLC. Both media
players are in the regular repository.

Respectfully yours,
Bas.
