direct rendering question - Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller

 so I've got a Lenovo IdeaPad U400 running 12.04 which has the hybrid
graphics capability - it comes with an integrated GPU, and a discrete
GPU:

This is my integrated gpu - it uses i915 Kernel module:

        00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd
Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev
09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
        Subsystem: Lenovo Device 3976

However it does does not support direct rendering :

$ glxinfo |grep -i direc
direct rendering: No (If you want to find out why, try setting
LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose)

my question is, is direct rendering working for anybody on this card?
(If not,  what a crappy intel card to select as the integrated GPU!)
