How do I disable screen blanking?

May be you missed the 'Screen Energy Saving' check box in the power management 
options in KDE 4.8. it explains that the the screen will turn off after a time 
interval. May be this is what is happening on your system and I gather that 
the time you set here is more than the screen aver time.
